moclobemide

Brand name Manerix

Used in the following combined preparations None

general information

Moclobemide is the first of a new class of antidepressants known as reversible inhibitors of monoamine oxidase A (RlMA). By relieving depressive illness, rnoclobemide helps elevate mood and restore interest in everyday activities. Like all antidepressants, it takes at least one to two weeks before rnoclobemide starts to lift depression.

Unlike the traditional, non-reversible MAOIs – for example, phenelzine and tranylcypromine – rnoclobemide is not likely to interact with foods that contain tyramine, such as matured cheeses and yeast extracts. However, it is advisable to avoid large quantities of tyramine-rich foods because some people may be particularly sensitive.
